Bib and Shirt | Pick Up

CLICK HERE for a location map.

Runner bibs and shirts can be picked at the Expo on Friday, May 15th from 3:30pm to 8:30pm or Saturday, May 16th from 5:30am to 6:45am at the St. Michaels Schools Complex.

Onsite Bib Assignment

The St. Michaels Running Festival uses a dynamic bib assignment process which means that each runner will be assigned a bib number on-site at the expo when checking in. We have made this change in order to be more eco-friendly and cut down on the excess paper products traditionally used in bib preparation – envelopes, boxes, unused bibs, unused bib tags, etc. Not only will SMRF be more eco-friendly, the bib pick-up process will be smoother, quicker and more efficient!

Picking Up Another Participants Bib

No worries! You may pick up a bib for other runners on your team, in your running group or part of your family. If you plan on picking up a bib for another runner please have their first and last name, and date of birth with you.

Wave Assignments

Even though runner bibs will be assigned at the expo, you are able to look up your start wave and corresponding start time by following this link. Details of the wave start process are outlined below.

Bib Mailing

If you feel you won't be able to make it to the Expo on Friday, or would simply prefer the convenience of having you bib and shirt sent to your home, then you can select the bib mailing option. Why not have your race gear sent directly to you?

CLICK HERE for more details on the bib mailing option.

Wave Info | Start Times

Look Up My Wave - CLICK HERE

The St. Michaels Running Festival start gun will go off promptly at 7:10 a.m. in 5 waves. We've structured the start this way in order to create smaller groups of runners, less congestion and a smoother ride for you all along the course.

Where Do I Go Once I Arrive At the Start?

  1. Look for your start wave when you arrive at the start. There will be start line race crew volunteers holding large signs with start wave numbers and bib ranges.
  2. Once you've identified your wave, please head over to that race crew volunteer and join that group. Your group will queue behind the race crew volunteer on the opposite side from the start line.
  3. Move toward the start once the waves in front of you have left. Please follow your race crew volunteer forward until instructed to load into the starting chute.
  4. Once the horn blows for your wave… RUN!

Course Certification

The St. Michaels Running Festival half marathon (13.1 miles) and the 5K are USATF certified courses
.
What is course certification?

The purpose of the USATF course certification program is to produce road race courses of accurately measured distances. For any road running performance to be accepted as a record or be nationally ranked, it must be run on a USATF-certified course. In addition, the certification program is very important to the average road racer, as well as those of exceptional speed. Most runners like to compare performances run on different courses, and such comparisons are difficult if course distances are not reliable. No one can truly establish a personal best if the course distance is not accurate.

The water stations will have both water and a sports drink. The water will be available at the first table as you approach and the sports drink will be available at the second table. The race crew volunteers will also remind you of the water and sports drink locations as you approach.

First Aid and Medical Stations

The Talbot County DES, EMS and medical services will be stationed at the start, finish, and various locations on the 5K and half marathon. First aid stations will be located at the start and finish. If you feel like you are having a medical problem which requires assistance, please head to the one of the first aid stations for assistance.

If you are on the race course and experience a problem and cannot finish the race, please head to the nearest water station. Let the station captain know you cannot complete the race and they will contact 911 and request immediate help. EMS, medical personnel and local authorities can withdraw any participant who they feel is at risk of personal health hazard or safety.

Weather Policy

The St. Michaels Running Festival will take place rain or shine. In the event an severe weather emergency is declared by the national weather service, the state or local authorities, the event may be canceled - runner, race crew and volunteer safety come first. If the event is canceled, the event has no obligation to refund entry fees.

Course Management. Safety, and Support

We want to send out a huge amount of appreciation for our local authorities, EMS personnel, volunteer fire departments, race crew volunteers and administrators who make this race possible.

Let’s send a big shout out and some appreciation to a few of the organizations and people that run “the marathon” before the race:

Everyone listed above works incredibly hard as a team in order to make SMRF a fun, worry free and safe race. We have received so many compliments since our 2012 inaugural event highlighting how safe runners felt along our courses and what an enjoyable experience it is. This is a direct result of the efforts by this team, volunteers who were excited/friendly/enthusiastic, and several communities cooperating patiently to welcome our runners and to cheer them on along the course.

If you have a moment while you’re in town, please let the volunteers, EMS personnel and authorities know what a wonderful job they’re doing and how much their efforts are recognized and appreciated.

Course Time Limit

Please note that the time limit for the half marathon is 3 hours and 30 minutes. All courses have a wrap up time of 11:00am - after 11:00am, the public safety personnel, timing and course marshals will no longer be stationed on the course. In consideration of our volunteers and our community, this time limit is strictly enforced. Thank you for helping to keep the St. Michaels Half Marathon on track!

Awards | Categories

Gun Time and Chip Time Rankings

SMRF uses both gun time and chip time for scoring. We award all finishers in both Male and Female categories.

Overall Winner Awards

Overall winners for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place will be based on gun time.

AGE GROUP winners will be determined using chip time. So no matter where you line up, or what wave you are in at the start of the race, your official time will not begin until you cross the start line timing mat.

Age Group Awards

Due to starting times being extended over a period with multiple start waves, only unofficial times will be posted live. All results are considered unofficial until they are verified by the St. Michaels Running Festival Committee. If you believe there is a discrepancy in your posted finish time and/or an error in your age/gender assignment, you can submit a time adjustment request up to 5 days after the event is completed. All times are expected to be official by the following Sunday after the race. Age group winners will be posted once all changes and discrepancies have been processed and updated. Once official results have been posted, your award will be mailed to you.
